Hike, Dry Land Training and Lunch at A Local Archer Avenue Joint
Hike the Palos Forest Preserve. I have a favorite path known to only a few that traverses the ridge of a hill through the woods. The topography at Palos Forest Preserve is uniquely hilly in the Chicago area – no doubt the reason the land was never developed.
For those interested, we’ll also do some limited dry land training. You can just hike if desired but it’s a good chance to prepare for ski season. Bring your shortest ski poles if you want to do DLT.
We will meet on Saturday at 9AM (or in case of bad weather, on Sunday at 1 PM) at Parking Lot #22 (see map) which is on 104th Street just south of Route 83. From 75th street, go south on Route 83 past I-55 and past the two bridges (over the Des Plains River and the I & M Canal) and bear left (east) on 83 past Camp Sagwau and continue to 104th. Turn right on 104th and immediately left into the parking lot. If you’re late we’ll be heading across the street to the trail on the west side of 104th.

Bring skis to wax, but not required. Ski waxing benches will be set up in the garage or basement depending on the temperature. Grilled brats, hot dogs, and soft drinks will be provided. Bring a dish to pass. If the weather cooperates we will have a yard wood fire to roast marshmallows for smores!
