Journalist for the Chicago Sun Times and Worldloppet Master will tell us of
his adventures at his ten Worldloppet races. He'll be talking about the
exciting and fun world of cross-country skiing better known as the 15-race
Worldloppet circuit. He'll explain how you can participate in your favorite
sport and meet people from all over the world. And he will show pictures of

Nordic Skiing History – 1850 to Present Scott Smith Development of our sport picked up from last year’s talk after a quick review of earlier times. Skiing during the past 156 years transitioned from military and practical transportation to recreational and competitive activity. That is, it became a sport. Mike Farrell, Owner of Prairie Path Cycles The program, with samples for comparison, covered the types of bicycles, the differences between them and recent advances in equipment. Mike explained what features change as the bicycle price rises from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars, and why someone would pay $5,000 for a bicycle. Mark has been Chief of Emergency Medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of Boston, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, CEO of National Medical Claims Analysts, and Vice President and Associate Medical Director at Concentra Managed Care. Currently he is Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois, a team leader in IMERT (the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team) and a practicing emergency physician. |

He will discuss why balance is a key aspect of cross-country skiing, and how one can improve their own balance. Dress comfortably and be prepared to participate in some simple drills that will get you off to a good start for the coming season. |
