Let’s Go to the Gunflint Trail this Feburary

Let’s talk Gunflint.  We were last there in 2016 and had great fun with good skiing at Bearskin. For this trip, we will go the week of 2/5/23 to 2/10/23 with a travel day on each end. The Gunflint Lodge is the place to stay because it serves meals and has lots of activities; snow shoeing, skiing, nature walks with naturalists, ice fishing, electric fat tire bikes, saunas and hot tubs. They also have large cabins with fireplaces and bathrooms for every bedroom.  Here is the link Boundary Waters Lodge – Minnesota Family Resort | Gunflint Lodge   .  It is about a 10-hour drive so we will drive halfway, maybe ski and then stay in a hotel before continuing the next day.  There are two other nearby ski areas; Golden Eagle Golden Eagle Lodge – Minnesota Resort – Gunflint Trail – Grand Marais – Cabins – Campground (golden-eagle.com)   and Bearskin Bearskin Lodge and Resort – On the Gunflint Trail, near Grand Marais Minnesota.  They do not offer food but have very good trails. The cost per person at Gunflint, double occupancy is $925.00 tax included (drinks and gratuity are not) for 5 nights and 14 meals with 2 beds and private bath in each bdrm.  We have two 3 bedroom/bath cabins, and a 2 bedroom/bath cabin on hold.  Members will need to pair up to share rooms; a single occupancy will cost $100 to $200 more depending on which cabins we get.   Except for snowshoeing, activities are extra so members can choose where and what to do.  A 3-day ski pass is $30.00 or $15.00 per day, winter day trek with naturalist on snowshoes is $115.00, 2hr fat tire rental is $35.00. Still in the works is a possible horse sleigh ride, evening nature walk, maybe to see Northern lights, and ski agreement with Golden Eagle which is groomed for skating.

Hotels in Eau Clair Wi., about halfway, are $125 -$150 per night.  If snow permits, we could drive to Nine Mile, ski a couple hours and then head to Eau Clair. The total cost would be around $1500 per person including meals, hotels, and many of the activities.   A deposit of $250.00 is needed by Saturday, 10/1/22.
