Let’s Go to the Gunflint Trail February 8th to 13th 2026
WE STILL HAVE SOME SPACES AS OF JUNE 2026
Let’s talk Gunflint. We were last there in 2016 and 2023. We had great fun with good skiing at Golden Eagle, Bearskin, Gunflint Lodge. For this trip, we will go the week of 2/8/23 to 2/13/23 which includes a travel day on the way north. The Gunflint Lodge is the place to stay because it serves meals and has lots of activities; snow shoeing, skiing, nature walks with naturalists, ice fishing, electric fat tire bikes, saunas and hot tubs. They also have large cabins with fireplaces and bathrooms for every bedroom. Here is the link Boundary Waters Lodge – Minnesota Family Resort | Gunflint Lodge . There are two other nearby ski areas; Golden Eagle Golden Eagle Lodge – Minnesota Resort – Gunflint Trail – Grand Marais – Cabins – Campground (golden-eagle.com) and Bearskin Bearskin Lodge and Resort – On the Gunflint Trail, near Grand Marais Minnesota. They do not offer food but have very good trails. Check out their websites for more information. It is about a 10-hour drive, so we will stay halfway, around Eau Claire.
The cost per person at Gunflint, double occupancy is around $1500 (without drinks and gratuity) for 5 nights and 14 meals with 2 beds and private bath in each bdrm. We have two 3 bedroom/bath cabins (9 & 27) on hold for 2 weeks w/o deposit. Members will need to pair up to share rooms; a single occupancy will cost extra depending on which cabins we get. Still in the works is a possible horse sleigh ride, evening nature walk, maybe to see Northern lights, and other activities.
Hotels in Eau Clair Wi. are $150 -$200 per night. If snow permits, we could ski around there. So, the entire trip will cost $1800 to $2000 per person including meals, hotels, and many of the activities. To secure our reservation Gunflint Lodge needs a deposit for the two cabins by May 1st. (Several of their cabins are already booked.) The deposit for each cabin is $900.00, so if 6 members stay in a cabin that is $150 per member. They have not finalized their prices for next year, but the above estimate should cover our costs.
This is early to have to make a decision, but they are a popular place. A deposit is needed by Monday, 4/28/25. Let Bruce know you want to attend as soon as possible. Once he knows how many are interested the deposit amount can be communicated. kuehlcross@comcast.net, 630 947 3132. Call or email if you have questions.
